Remember This Higgs stirs racial controversy – Daily Southerner? So How Did He Make A Mistake And Put Coles On His Ballot And Not Robin Carpenter For Register of Deeds? Okay He Made The Change!

Sources say Rev. Roosevelt Higgs the one and only “Citizens For A Better Edgecombe County” who is responsible for the ballot with a slate of names telling folks who to vote for accidently put Barbara Coles for Register of Deeds and not Robin Carpenter. I understand the ballots were destroyed and new ballots have been made removing Coles and adding Carpenter. But how did that mistake happen when he stood up in the Democratic Party County Convention talking about “Racial Profiling.”

So I guess since “Citizens For A Better Edgecombe County” is doing a ballot, the Edgecombe-Nash Black Political Caucus is not doing one. But same thing. 

Oh by the way Rev. Roosevelt Higgs supporting Andre Knight for Rocky Mount Councilman. Can you imagine that? Higgs challenged Knight’s residency and the county ending up getting sued for Higgs ignance. About 2 weeks ago I called in to WHIG – TV and was talking about the Trayvon Martin’s Murder and I turned the TV office when I said what I had to say and called in to the local radio station FM 99.3. I was told that Higgs called WHIG – TV and said that Rev. Al Sharpton, Rev. Jesse Jackson, Rev. Andre Knight and myself were troublemakers. He was referring to Knight and myself because we were speaking to the role of the NAACP. I am a life fully paid member and member of the Rocky Mount Branch and Knight is the Rocky Mount Branch President. Oh well.

Why There Are No Young People Involved In The Edgecombe County Democratic Party, They Have Not Been Truly Welcomed!!

This is in response to a comment left at another article, “Edgecombe County Democratic Party after the convention is still without an effective chair to lead the county party”

I have been a member of the Edgecombe County Democratic Party since the 90′s and it attracts no one. The participation has continued to go down. The faithful folks (elected officials) whom used to attend to not attend any more.

I began as the 3rd vice chair of my precinct because I was in my late 20′s and the youngest person to attend the meetings so therefore I served by default because I met the age criteria of 36 years old and younger.

I  quickly moved up to the county party and served as the 3rd vice chair by default. I met the age criteria 36 and under however I was in my late 20′s so they had no choice but to make me 3rd vice. I had a mind of my own so they didn’t want me. I refused to go away and I challenged everyone black, brown, white and other so therefore I was not liked by many especially blacks because they were jealous of me speaking my mind.

I came from a strong family and have never wanted for anything so I didn’t come to the party for anything other than to help make Edgecombe County a better place to live, work and play. And the same holds true when I joined the NAACP I didn’t join them because I had an issue but to do the same with them with them also. But most people come to the party because they want to run for an office or have a personal fight.

I remember when I first joined someone said we need you because I didn’t like white folks and they based that on my editorials in response to former Highway Patrol T.C. Cherry and later former County Commissioner when he used to write editorials about black folks. I said oh hell no I like all folks so don’t get it twisted just because I am not afraid to write letters in the paper and sign my name to it. I said what is black leadership doing, they are not creating any jobs but look at what several whites in the Democratic Party are doing?

I eventually moved up to 2nd vice, 1st vice chair and interim chair from 1998 – 1999 when now Rev. Roy Gray resigned his post and the 2nd vice which was Mayor Vines Cobb had just had surgery so he did not want to move up and Celestine Lyons was 1st vice and she ran against T.C. Cherry for County Commissioner so since Cherry and Lyons were both Democrats she had to resign as an officer on the county level. I took on the interim chair position although I was a candidate for school board, my race was a non-partisan race so I didn’t have to resign. This was a crucial time because this was the first election for the 1st black Sheriff James Knight whom was appointed in 1996. Carol Allen White became the 1st black Clerk of Court and Senator John Edwards won the Senate seat. His campaign field director Anthony Young worked hard in Edgecombe County and this is the last real event that was held by the party and it was held at the National Guard Armory.

I didn’t run for the chair position in 1999 because the people of Edgecombe County was not ready for me because I was not the typical young black male. Rev. Roosevelt Higgs a known criminal by all of the party members campaigned for the chair position however Ms. Elizabeth Ohree nominated me and I accepted the nomination so that those in attendance would have an option. Higgs won the nominee and many of those present said if they knew I was going to be a candidate they would have voted for me but since Higgs had asked them to support him they did. So that spoke highly of those who supported him. Higgs had voted twice in an election went to jail and had lost his citizenship. His rights were restored under former Governor Jim Hunt because the Rev. Thomas L. Walker and some others fought to get Higgs rights restored. Black folks used their leverage to get Higgs back and he has been a pain in the butt every since from what I was told and I can witness it since the early 90′s. He has always played both sides since I have been active.

I served as a vice chair under the leadership of former chair Dorothy Joyner and she resigned before her term expired and I had to move up to the chair position again. Again I didn’t want the chair position and this is when Celestine Lyons was appointed as chair.

I believe the last time we have really had young folks involved was during the time I was the interim chair and I appointed someone to carry out that role. We were getting if off the ground but it went away when Higgs became chair.

A couple of years ago Attorney Will Solomon became the Young Democrats chair and I offered to work with him along with Rocky Mount Councilman Andre Knight whom both are several years younger than I. He never contacted us.

So when I hear about young folks not being involved and who has something to say, I just laugh my butt off because they have been part of the problem.

I had gotten so fed up with the Democratic Party that I once registered Unaffiliated but that was no fun because I had no meetings to go to and had no voice in what was going on within the Democratic Party so I changed my party affiliations back so I could attend the meetings and voice my opinion.

Welcome aboard Crews my friend and enjoy the ride. Until Rev. Roosevelt Higgs is out of the picture the confusion and b.s. will always exist in the party. I didn’t have a problem with him when I was the interim chair other than he trying to block everything I did but some folks had to make him aware that the chair and the other 5 county officers were in control whenever the entire executive committee was not in session. I knew my role and when I had meetings my agendas went out to the committee with the items for action listed and the section within the Plan of Organization so that no one came to the meeting with knowing what business would take place. I called all of the executive committee members to remind them of the meetings although letters had gone out.

I was not only the chair but I was the secretary as well. During the time I was the interim chair in 1998 – 1999 my secretary was an elderly person and I always met with her and I would type up the information and get everything prepared for her and she had no problem with it. We worked great together.

When Dorothy Joyner resigned I put pressure on the secretary and she resigned again I was the chair and secretary. The secretary at that time was not doing a good job and she and another person had their personal agenda so I put pressure on her and she resigned.

During my 1998 – 1999 tenure as interim chair I was vice president of N.E.E.D. Inc. and Mr. William Hobbs was the treasurer. He was also chair of the Nash County Democratic Party so he and his wife were my mentor because I learned from him as it related to carrying out the meetings and etc.

Higgs in his early 50′s at the time was removed as a county officer when Rocky Mount Councilman Andre Knight in his early 30′s at the time defeated Higgs as a vice chair. He continues to serve as a precinct chair when many know he do not live where he says he live and has not lived in the Speed since the flood in 1999. There is no livable housing on the property that he has been claiming over the years and a previous board of elections did not go out to the property to confirm Higgs didn’t live there. Higgs had filed a residency challenge against Rocky Mount Councilman Andre Knight in which 1 Democratic board of elections member and her Republican cousin and a judge in Edgecombe County ruled against Knight. However Knight appealed to the Court of Appeals and won and the county had to pay Knight attorney fees.

This is what young folks seen in the local newspapers and on the local tv channels so why in the hell would young folks want to get involved with the county party when the party allowed Higgs to do his mess?

I could go on however I think I have given you enough to see what has taken place since I got involved in the early 90′s and how some things have not changed while many things have stayed the same. No young folks in 2011.

I have always said that he worked both sides and always keep mess stirred up within the Democratic Party. Rev. Dr. Higgs is a vice precinct chair and the sad part he do not live where he says he lives and the powers that be who had the opportunity to set him down has allowed him to continue his mess. Because he is a precinct vice chair he is able to speak and disrupt the meetings to keep confusion so that he can help a local PAC receive monies whereby they give him a few crumbs.

I have challenged this guy over the years and others know his motive but they were and are afraid to challenge him. It is a damn shame that the fight is on the inside when we ought to be focusing on the real fight keeping Democrats in office.

Higgs have stated in several Democratic Party meetings that the work is done outside the party and I found that out about him years ago. However I tried to work with him but I couldn’t take it. He eventually began to stalk me and I had to take him to court and he was found guilty. He was put on a 1 years probation.

Today I received a call from my sources in Pitt County that they seen Democrat Rev. Dr. Roosevelt Higgs in Greenville (Pitt County) driving a white truck with Republican C. B. Daughtridge literature on it. I also received a call last month that he was seen in Pitt County and possibly Ayden the same day of the “Collard Festival” driving around pulling a trailer with a big Daughtridge sign.

I spoke to several folks today after receiving the call from Pitt County and I found out from a high ranking official in the Democratic Party that Rev. Dr. Higgs was caught on a photo at Edgecombe Community College Rocky Mount campus putting up a Daughtridge sign.

Have you seen this guy in your area putting up signs?

Folks I have worked too damn hard holding all folks black, brown, white and other folks accountable for their actions. I will not stop now. I will not allow folks to represent me and do whatever the hell they want to when all they are really doing is holding us just where we are.

When we come together as a black people we can accomplish much but as long as we allow mess to take place nothing will change. And these same folks want to talk about why our children are doing the things they do. Why? Because they see what we allow.

It is about the future, my children and their children’s future so either you tell it or I am gonna tell it.

Note: Someone told me I left off Rev. Dr. Well I finally found out he was a Rev. because I didn’t believe it but I do know he is not a Dr. He calls himself a Dr. because he best bud is a Dr. Go figure.

The Edgecombe County Commissioners continues to validate Rev. Roosevelt Higgs but why?

Sources have been telling The DCN that Rev. Roosevelt Higgs lives in the E. L. Roberson Center on Baker Street in Tarboro NC with his mother. Higgs address is listed in Speed NC where he is a precinct vice chair.

The Edgecombe County Planning Department has made several presentations to the Edgecombe County Commissioners about where Higgs says he lives. The commissioners know that it is no way Higgs lives where he says he lives especially after the county has visited the property and there is no livable structure nor any electricity and water at this property.

Higgs is the chair of the Edgecombe County Human Relations Commission. He teamed up with a person who came down from Birmingham Alabama whom tried to discredit Edgecombe County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Craig Witherspoon was at that time was a candidate for Superintendent of Birmingham schools. Sources told The DCN they seen Higgs and this person arrive at the January Edgecombe County School Board meeting on a rental car.

About 2 weeks ago It was reported to The DCN that Higgs attended the Department of Social Services board meeting and acted a fool. It was reported that he arrived at this meeting with Cliff Hickman a former DSS worker who is retired but has some issues with the DSS. Hickman addressed the board also saying he had been denied access to the DSS building.

It was reported to The DCN this past week that Rev. Roosevelt Higgs was calling around asking folks to run against certain incumbents on the Edgecombe County school board and  county commissioner board. I see some folks have filed to run against several incumbents.

Birmingham school board votes to offer $185,000 base salary to its choice for superintendent – Source The Birmingham News

The Birmingham Board of Education agreed today to offer Craig Witherspoon a $185,000 base salary plus medical, vision and dental insurance, a $500-a-month car allowance and other benefits to become the next school superintendent.

Altogether, the total compensation package will be worth about $242,000, plus relocation expenses and a temporary housing allowance for 90 days. (The Birmingham News)

Note: So I see it must be true that Marie Leech is Ronald E. Jackson’s reporter. Several folks told me that Jackson said she was his reporter but her voice mail she left when she called me gave me the impression that it was not true. But after reading the article above I am now having 2nd thoughts.

Rev. Roosevelt Higgs has not followed the school system here and Marie knows it because I have it posted on my blog in which she told me she had read. Higgs is a known criminal.

It is so sad that Marie didn’t quote someone who have been following the system. Hell no I would not give anyone my evaluation. The board just recently renewed Dr. Witherspoon’s contract for 4 years and not for just 1, 2 or 3 years. It is obvious that they have confidence that if he is to stay here another 4 years they must feel he will do more good things. As it relates to the finances, the flood was not the issue but the previous white Superintendent who left the county’s finances in the minus.

I have been following the system since the early 90′s however I graduated from the system in 1981. Funny that Leech only came up and introduced herself to me at the meeting but didn’t ask for a quote. Well would not have given her one anyway but would have told her to go back to my blog and get a quote from there.

Ronald E. Jackson Birmingham Citizens for Better Schools Executive Director and Rev. Roosevelt Higgs Edgecombe County Human Relations Chair Addressed the School Board Tonight

Sources say Jackson and Higgs rode to the meeting together and both addressed the Edgecombe County Public Schools Board during the public comments. Sources say Higgs asked the board to find some money to keep Dr. Witherspoon in Edgecombe County while Jackson talked about some data concerning Edgecombe County Public Schools.

Marie Leech Education Reporter for The Birmingham News was present at the meeting.

I arrived at the meeting late and the board was in closed session. The board came out of closed session and there was nothing really discussed at that time.

All Of You Who Are Responsible For Creating This Animal Need To Resign

Those who are a part of creating this animal (Rev. Roosevelt Higgs) dating back years before I became a community activist in the early 90’s are responsible for his actions. I have challenged the actions of Higgs since that time. He held an office on the Edgecombe County Democratic Party Executive Committee up until about 3 – 4 years ago and but some of us have been able to shut him down and he only serves a precinct vice chair in a precinct where he does not live.

It is so sad that we have elected officials whom promote criminals but then these same officials talk about what the young people are doing as it relates to criminal activity, gangs and other. Well I consider ya’ll a gang as well.

All of you who are responsible for Higgs being appointed to the Edgecombe County Human Relations Commission where he serves as chair need to resign your post effective immediately. Commissioner Viola Harris posted on my blog that she didn’t vote for him.

Ronald E. Jackson Citizens for Better Schools Executive Director Has Connected With A Known Criminal In Edgecombe County To Help Him Carry Out His Mission

I am tickled to death that Ronald E. Jackson has teamed up with Rev. Roosevelt Higgs Edgecombe County Human Relations Chair appointed by the Edgecombe County Commissioners, a known criminal to help carry out his mission of trying to discredit Dr. Craig Witherspoon Superintendent of Edgecombe County Public Schools. Dr. Witherspoon was chosen as the next Superintendent of Birmingham Schools pending his background check and the condition of this contract.

I was tickled to death to see the article in local newspaper The Daily Southerner titled “Birmingham advocacy group coming Monday.” The article has a picture of Jackson and Higgs.

Roosevelt Higgs is a known criminal.

I can’t wait to attend the Edgecombe County Public Schools Board of Education Meeting on next week.

Rev. Roosevelt Higgs Called In To FM 92.1 Behind Me On Thursday

The ignant Rev. Roosevelt Higgs called in again trying to discredit my comments about the single parent with 2 children that called in on Tuesday who was appreciating her daughter for doing good in school and not having to go back after Christmas because she has completed her courses to graduate in June. I stated that this lady and her daughter need to be called upon to speak to others be it on the radio, in the churches and in the community to inspire others. I said we are always talking about the negative children.

Again the ignant Rev. tried to discredit me but misleading folks in the process. He said that it was nothing new that children finish school before time so he was going to put a period on that as if he is the one who decides if there should be further discussion on the issue.

My point was is that this child could tell about how she chose to take all the courses needed to require to graduate and not take fill in courses that would make her had to stay in school for the entire senior year. This student could share with others what inspired her to do what she did.

The mother works 2 jobs. This female student not only worked hard to be able to stay at home until graduation but she helps her sibling with his/her school work as well.

Just imagine if this family could share with others what works for them, they may could encourage some other families to do the same.

Again folks we have a so-called reverend who should be trying to say things to encourage folks but instead he is busy trying to discredit and mislead folks. And then folks wonder why some reverends get a bad name.

Rev. Roosevelt Higgs Called In To FM 92.1 Behind Me On Wednesday

That ignant rascal called in again right behind me on Wednesday trying to belittle me however he can’t do that but in the process he do what he does best mislead folks. He tries so hard to disagree with whatever I call in and say no matter how on target I am. I have no problem with him disagreeing with me but when he tries to twist what I say, then it becomes a problem.

On yesterday the discussion was about parenting. I said we are using parenting too loosely because we know that people are parents simply because they have children however parents of today are so young and some are 15 years or less older than their children so therefore they are children themselves. I said some of these parents do not know how to be parents. Some of the grandparents are not really parents to their children so therefore we have a problem.

I said we all know who are the real parents in our neighborhoods so we don’t need to act like we don’t know. I said what are we doing to help with these children. I said are we reaching out to them.

Higgs called in talking about we don’t need to redefine parents because if they have children they are parents. He said if they have children even if they ain’t but one year older they should be responsible parents.

This man suppose to be a Rev. and get on the radio and try to discredit a few others especially Mrs. Edna Mount and myself since we are regular callers.

Express Yourself Tonight Talking About Tiger Woods, No Sympathy

Express Yourself is a weekly talk show that comes on FM 92.1 every Monday evenings 6 PM – 7 PM.

It is so funny how Rev. Roosevelt Higgs called in right behind me talking about some folks are not markable like Tiger Woods and some others. He said that Tiger got caught up and he was weak. Rev.  said before he got married he was out there. He said he was reminded by the song Clarence Carter made, “Too Weak To Fight” because many times he was weak. He was just a damn devil from what I hear about how he treated his ex-wife. Rev. asked one of the co-host had he ever been like Clarence?

Damn what kind of message was this so-called Rev. trying to send? Oh he was trying to send a message in order to disagree with what I had said.

I stated that when I became active in politics in the 90’s I stressed that we as a black people do not have to do illegal things to better our community unlike what we had to do in the past in order to get some things changed. I said now we are educated and we need to do things by the book.

I said as it relates to Tiger Woods I have a problem with some of the discussion because I understand he is under pressure as an athlete however that is all the reason why he ought to have wanted to not bring shame to his family. I said I could understand if he was a single man but he has a wife and child. I said we have certain folks who want to see successful black men fall prey to money, sex and drugs. I said we as a black men be it sports, reverends and other with status in the community ought to want to die and go to their grave without bringing about shame to their families. Why is that so hard?

Now back to the Rev. his ex-wife used to be my school teacher back in the day. From what I have been told back in the late 70’s he mentally and physically abused her and she finally left him and left town. He was right on target that some folks are not markable because he has not remarried and he is so damn crazy that obviously no one will accept him.

It is people like this ignant a… so-called Rev. the reason why some of our young black males do the things they do. I just did an article over the weekend and this is the type of folks that are supported and promoted in our communities but yet the children can do minor things and we write them off. This so-called Rev. has been a criminal since the 80’s and I had to take him to court for harassing  me via phone calls and he was charge and put on probation.  During the same time we were finishing up our case he was charged and put on probation for assaulting his neice. The black commissioners who are the majority on this board reappointed him on The Human Relations Commission and he is now the chair after I attended one of their meetings when his appointment was up asking were they going to reappoint him but I got no answer. Later I learned the reappointed him.

The Rev. has been jealous of Rev. Andre Knight and myself for several years and he tried to discredit us but it backfired. Edgecombe County had to pay Rev. Andre Knight’s attorney fees. But again look at how the Edgecombe County Commissioners support this criminal when they know he do not live where he says he lives but had the audacity to challenge Knight’s residency.

The Edgecombe County Planning Department did a presentation to the Commissioners showing the lot where Higgs says he lives that has no living dwelling on it and was a dumping ground for waste.  He was caught burning political signs and other illegal activities but again the Commissioners promoted this criminal.

Higgs has disrespected the Commissioners in their meetings many times however they continue to promote his mess.

And then we wonder why are young black males do what they do. They are doing what they see us do and promote. What a damn shame. I am so glad when I attended meetings with these so-called leaders and they tried to run me away, I stood up to them and today I will challenge all of them. I know all of them and what they stand for and they are collecting a check at taxpayers expense.

Well Rev. you called in again behind me just like you did last week showing how immoral you are by trying to go against what I stated and Ms. Edna Mount a frequent caller also simply because you wanted to disagree with us. It is so sad that you have to stoop to your level of stupidity because you are jealous of I know Rev. Andre Knight, Ms. Edna Mount and myself because we are outspoken.

I may not be markable Rev. but I do have a wife of 12 years at the moment. Well sir you can say you had a wife. LOL

Has County Settled Legal Fees Lawsuit Terry Smith Editor Tarboro Daily Southerner and Jeff Herrin Editor of Rocky Mount Telegram? You Damn Skippy

I find it so damn funny that ya’ll have not reported that Edgecombe County has settled the residency challenge that was carried out by Rev. Roosevelt Higgs and the Edgecombe County Board of Elections. The county had to pay for Rev. Andre Knight legal fees after the ruling came down from the NC Court of Appeals.

It is so damn funny how ya’ll are so selective about what ya’ll want the people of Edgecombe County to know. But ya’ll sure wanted the people to know that Knight was being challenged and even participated in the challenge. LMBAO

Yep ya’ll try to silence some of us. Ya’ll will not print my letters to the editor but I sure can print them on The DCN.

 

Tarboro NC – Roosevelt Higgs Democratic Party District Chair?

Sources say Roosevelt Higgs is calling Democrats throughout the 1st Congressional District asking them to support him for the District Chair position.

Folks this brother has issues. He announced at the last Edgecombe County Board of Elections Meeting that he was going to be appointed to that board. He has been campaigning for the Edgecombe County Democratic Party position also.

Folks we do not need a known criminal in any of these positions. Anyone who support this brother has issues also.

It will be a sad day in Edgecombe County if Democrats support this brother who had the county to go through all of the b.s. with the Rocky Mount City Council Andre Knight residency issue.

Just last year Higgs was charged with harassing yours truly simply because I am an associate of Knight and he was also charged with assault on a family member as well.
