WakeCoSchools + Why We Choose to Break the Law

.

An unnecessary disaster currently being played out in Meetings of the Wake County School Board is happening because of a complete lack of effective and strategic Leadership in the Wake County Democratic Party prior to the Fall 2009 Municipal Elections for County School Board and City Council Seats.

.

There, Progressive Democrats armed with arrogant assumptions, ignored voter anger about years of school re-assignments, and tried to mold it into a racial issue that rang false to a majority of voters, even for staunch Democrats whose own kids had become used as pawns.

.

Outspent, Outplayed and Outsmarted by the Wake County GOP strategy, the Wake County Democratic Party Chair looked incompetent in post-election news coverage.  And why is this important? Because similar GOP strategies are reported playing out in Winston-Salem and Charlotte, making this problem widespread.  If "all politics is local," then winning on voter emotional issues at the School Board level is critical to building other successes.

.

But WakeCoParty Chair Jack Nichols failed to grasp the significance of voter anger. Instead of focusing on winning a critical School Board majority, he was constantly having to deal with his own divisive fellow Board Members with their never ending sabotage — many of them childless Progressives — who were intent on defeating one of their own Democrats in the Cary Municipal Election INSTEAD of paying attention to the Republican takeover of the School Board

.

Another reason Lawyer Nichols failed to notice GOP strategy was that he was working on personal ambition to set himself up as the only Democratic Candidate for his own County Commissioner District.

.

Infighting staged by Progressive Witches of Wake diverted attention, alienated voters, and kept Dems away from the ballot box.  Progressives, by default, allowed a Republican majority to take control of the Wake County School Board.

.

Wake County Progressive Outlaws diverted attention from the prize: Winning Elections. Removing politically incompetent Wake Progressives from Party Offices will not fix the problem they caused.  But it shall insure that these Outlaws will not, by their ignorance of politics, cause more of the same damage, division and embarrassment.

In the aftermath of failure, how is the WakeCoParty pulling together to avoid more of the same?  Udecide:

.

<O>  June 12th:  First Annual International Night at a local cafe, saying

Please bring a favorite dish of yours that best represents your ethnicity & culture!

Results? Attended by the same Progressive Dems already involved in subverting the Party.  Not exactly a voter outreach success when you’re preaching only to the choir.

.

<O>  August 7th:  a Sweet Victory Party and Art Auction at NC Democratic Party HQ in Raleigh, with tickets ranging from $15 to $100 to sample homemade desserts. What victory?  Democratic Municipal Candidates lost.  The School Board majority was lost.  And November Elections are 3 months away.

.

Is this just more fluster clucking to give the appearance of  sumthin’ happening to the same old same old?  Where’s the voter outreach?  Voter registration drives? Building the Party base? When will the WakeDemoParty start doing the only thing the Party exists to do?

.

While members of the WakeCoDemParty are burying their collective heads in Deep Denial to ignore their failure — with visions of ethnic potlucks and homemade sweets dancing thru their heads like Sugarplum Fairies — others affected by their WakeCoDemParty’s failure are choosing to be arrested, because they do not understand what Sweet Victory could possibly mean.  school-board-sit-in-ends-with-arrests

.

Progressives who invaded the NC Democratic Party for 4 years under former State Chair Jerry Meek’s open invitation — including the private membership Corporation, Progressives Outlaws of NC, Inc  and all who associate with them — have never accomplished a single useful, positive thing for the Democratic Party since they were founded

.

Progressives claim to be an external vigilante police force for the Party, but in the end could not police even themselves.  At no time was PøNC, Inc formally affiliated with the Party in any manner. Instead, they sought to covertly infiltrate the Democratic Party at all levels with PøNC Corporate members.

.

Extremist Progressives drive away more Moderate voters than Progressives they attract, a net loss to the Party at the ballot box.  Therefore, because of their political ignorance and arrogance, Progressives are supporting election of Republican Candidates.  They are frauds, they are cheats, they are liars, they steal from the Party, and Progressives leave nothing but a trail of wreckage in their wake.

.

All of this pain now happening at School Board Meetings could have been so easily avoided, with a small number of additional Democratic voters.  Getting enough voters to the polls was the ONLY job the Wake County Party had to do.  Current Blue Dog State Chair David Young, and his sidekick Blue Dog Executive Director Andrew Whalen at Party HQ in Raleigh knew the School Board disaster was brewing, but completely blew it.

.

Whalen has refused to release the script of a phone bank message which Wake County Progressives President Jesse Goslen claims they used during the Fall 2009 Campaign.  Whalen refused to release data on what was said, who and how many were called, because it spotlights the Party’s failed strategy.

.

With Blue Dogs in charge of State Party HQ at the top, and Progressives gnawing away at County Parties from below, disaster is on its way for November Elections, just as it happened for Municipal Elections in Wake County last Fall.  With inept Party Leadership like WCDP Chair Jack Nichols and NCDP Chair David Young at the helm, you can absolutely count on wholesale losses, across the State.

.

This is a coming disaster as clear as the nose on your face.  But the omens have been around for years. When head Progressive Wake Witch Doris Weaver — Jack’s one-term predecessor — beat incumbent Keith Karlsson for Wake County Party Chair, she received 666 votes at County Convention.  Weaver’s immediate reaction?  "Don’t tell anyone the final vote count, just the difference in votes!"

.

There’s still time to divert from the path to failure, of course, if anyone has the guts to do it. Petitions for removal of Progressives as Party Officers can be submitted by any 3 registered Democrats. Some Petitions are already under way. The goal is to have as many Petitions submitted as possible before the next State Executive Committee Meeting on August 1st in Fayetteville, where a new State Party Chair can be chosen.

.

A future Edition will publish a list of Progressives deserving of Removal from Office.  The floor is open for nominations:  ncdemocrats@earthlink.net

Why We Choose to Break the Law in Nonviolent Resistance and Moral Witness against the Re-Segregation of the Wake County Public Schools

The decision of the anti-diversity members of the Wake County School Board to destroy the socio-economic diversity policy is morally wrong.  Their intentional actions lead toward the re-segregation of our schools in violation of the Constitutions of both the United States and North Carolina.  This ill-considered decision seeks to wipe away in six months what it took more than a century of tears, sweat and blood to accomplish. Many Americans risked and sometimes sacrificed their lives in order to fulfill the spirit of the 1954 Brown v. Board of Education decision and to move this community, state and country forward.  The anti-diversity members of the school board wipe their feet on the labors of our ancestors by equating their own actions with those of the NAACP and the U.S. Supreme Court in that landmark victory for justice.  Today we register our legitimate discontent.  And like hundreds who have gone before us here in Wake County, we are willing to break a lesser law and accept our punishment, in order to protect the larger law embodied in the federal and state constitutions and to defend the children of our community.  If it is necessary that we be locked up to resist policies that will lock down our children in re-segregated, high-poverty, and unconstitutional schools, so be it.

We are brothers and sisters in the Spirit, coming together to make a spiritual witness in a nonviolent act of conscience, in the service of our God and His children.  We have come to this place in a spirit of prayer, study and sacrifice.  We hope to be heard in the spirit of love that brings us here and to promote a deeper public understanding that all of the children are our children, equal in the eyes of God and worthy of the best school system that we can provide.  Our reasons for this nonviolent act of conscience include:

1.  The destruction of the nationally acclaimed diversity policy of the Wake County public school system is morally wrong. It cannot be accomplished without greatly increasing the number of high-poverty schools in the system and leading us back toward segregation.  This will undermine the education of all students, hurt the life chances of many, and harm the whole community. The relationship between racial re-segregation, poverty concentration, and reduced student and school performance in North Carolina is clear. Virtually all of the 44 lowest performing high schools are segregated: 40 of the 44 are racially isolated, predominantly non-white schools, most by very high percentages.  Many are segregated schools within diverse communities, in which student assignment policies are directly responsible for economic and racial isolation.   In these schools, it is much harder to keep experienced and effective teachers and administrators, which increases the disparities between rich and poor.  The diversity policy is not a cure-all, and the system has inequities and problems that it does not address, but abandoning it will make things much worse.  To protect our schools and the children they exist to serve, the destruction of the diversity policy must be stopped.

This catastrophe goes beyond Wake County and has dire implications for the entire state.  In 1996, 7.3 per cent of our schools were more than 80 per cent non-white.  By 2006, the figure had doubled to 15.4 per cent.  Today school boards across the state are abandoning, ignoring, or deliberately undermining policies designed to address segregation.  These actions, often motivated by narrow partisan politics, violate the rights of students to a sound basic education under the state Constitution, undercut the state’s commitment to quality education, and contravene the U.S. Constitution.  This is a public emergency.

2.  We have asked the school board to rescind their decision to abandon the diversity policy.  The school board refuses to hear us or anyone else who opposes their destructive decisions.  We have sought redress by asking for a 45-minute presentation by the NAACP, an organization with a century of experience and widely recognized standing on issues of education, race and inequality.  The current 5-4 Republican majority has refused to undertake any research or hear any information about the consequences of their policies, apart from two minutes per person in public meetings, which is not sufficient to explain these issues; the majority has also often implemented ticket policies that make it difficult for many to gain access to meetings, and further has described our serious request as only wanting a circus.

3.  The school board’s anti-diversity caucus has persisted in pitting school diversity against school excellence, as if diverse schools could not be excellent or excellent schools could not be diverse.  This is empty demagoguery, unsupported by research or realities in public education.

4.  Spokespersons for the anti-diversity caucus persistently compare their destructions of the socio-economic diversity policy to the victory of the NAACP in the Brown v. Board decision.  They implicitly compare themselves to Thurgood Marshall, Charles Hamilton Houston, and the thousands of ordinary citizens, black and white, whose courage and sacrifice made the Brown decision possible; people who endured racist terrorism, economic reprisals, jail sentences, and even sacrificed their lives.  This obscene demagoguery, whether deliberately vicious or merely ignorant, wipes its feet upon the risks and sacrifices of our ancestors and mocks the very idea of education.

5. In the best American traditions, from Henry David Thoreau to Ella Baker to Martin Luther King, Jr., we recognize the necessary place of civil disobedience: breaking a small and unjust law in order to protect a larger and broadly significant law, honoring the very spirit of law by yielding to punishment in order to meet the necessity of an urgent moral crisis.  We seek to make a moral and spiritual witness that we feel is urgent, necessary, and right.

.

Footnote:   With all kinds of Candidates requesting money this political season, may we help reduce your decision making?  Until Leadership in the NC Democratic Party decides to remove the corrupting Officers who snuck in to illegitimately represent an external private membership corporation, Progressive Outlaws of NC, Inc., give NO money to the Party.  Give your limited funds ONLY directly to the Democratic Candidates of your choice.

.

There’s no assurance that any money given to State or County Parties ever gets to any Candidate, but instead supports a top heavy and marginally competent Blue Dog Raleigh HQ Staff, and the left over Jerry Meek Progressive Groups who are destroying the Party by worming their way into control at County levels.   Cut to the chase, and give your money where it will do most good: to your chosen Candidates.

.

You’ll be glad you did!
