Businesses in Kinston are reporting a spike in sales six months after a Sanderson Farms chicken processing facility opened in the city.
For many businesses, employees of the new plant have become regular customers. (Read more)

Some of the same arguments surfacing in a contentious debate over a proposed chicken processing plant in Southern Nash County were aired in the mid-1990s over a proposed hog slaughterhouse in Edgecombe County.
Back then, hundreds of protesters in Edgecombe County complained about a proposal to develop an Iowa Beef Processors plant on land off U.S. 64 near Kingsboro. They argued the project would hurt property values, cause environmental problems and potentially bring an influx of illegal workers into the area. (Paid Content)
