Zimmerman on Dangerous Drugs, People Obama should pardon and NAACP Gay Marriage Decision – Black Talk Radio

Posted by Curmilus Dancy II (Butch) on May 22, 2012

Response: I found the piece on NAACP Gay Marriage Decision to be quite interesting as an NAACP Life Fully Paid Member.

Black Talk Radio: The NAACP has officially endorsed Gay Marriage framing it as a civil rights issue, will this cause a rift in the membership base with many of its chapter presidents being pastors of Christian churches. (More)

WHEN ARE WE GOING TO ADMIT THAT RACE IS STILL AN ISSUE IN AMERICA? by William Reed Columnist

Posted by Curmilus Dancy II (Butch) on January 3, 2012

The NAACP’s allegations are totally unfounded and reckless. We have never tolerated, and will never tolerate, discrimination in any way, shape or form in any of our business practices, products or services. – Wells Fargo Spokeswoman – 2009

Back in 2009 the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) filed a class action suit to stop lenders from engaging in "systematic, institutionalized racism in making home mortgage loans.”  The NAACP suit specifically named: Ameriquest, Wells Fargo, Fremont Investment, Option One Mortgage (H&R Block,) WMC Mortgage, Countrywide, Long Beach Mortgage, CitiGroup, BNC Mortgage, Accredited Home Lenders, Encore Credit (Bear Stearns,) First Franklin, HSBC, and Washington Mutual as modern practitioners of discrimination.

As we start the year 2012, the largest residential fair-lending settlement in American history is starting to take place. Bank of America has agreed to pay $335 million to settle federal allegations that its Countrywide unit discriminated against minorities. Due to the NAACP’s activism, the U.S. Justice Department carried out years of investigations that ultimately concluded Countrywide loan officers and brokers charged higher fees and rates to more than 200,000 minority borrowers than they did to White borrowers who posed the same credit risk. The Justice Department’s investigations also found that Countrywide steered more than 10,000 minority borrowers into costly subprime mortgages when White borrowers with similar credit profiles received regular loan portfolios.

Contrary to the protestations of America’s lenders our country’s unique racism continues.  Black buyers often enter a separate and unequal lending universe.  The mortgage companies the NAACP filed suit against accounted for half the loans given to Black middle-income borrowers in 2005 and 2006.  Minority borrowers paid hundreds or thousands of dollars more to get a mortgage than did similarly qualified White customers. Justice Department officials said, “The victims had no idea they were being victimized. They were thrilled to have gotten a loan and realize the American dream.”

With the impetus of the NAACP discrimination lawsuit the Justice Department created a division to focus exclusively on banks and mortgage brokers suspected of discriminating against minority mortgage applicants, a type of litigation that requires extensive and complex analysis of data. Working with bank regulatory agencies and the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the unit reached settlements or filed complaints accusing a lender of engaging in a pattern or practice of discrimination.  The Federal Reserve first detected statistical discrepancies in the loans Countrywide was making and referred the matter to the Justice Department in early 2007.

Those proven to be victims of Countrywide’s deliberate discrimination will get to divvy up $335 million, an average of roughly $1,700 per borrower.  The compensation rate will depend on who originated the loan and whether the borrower was steered into a subprime product.  Justice Department officials say that “checks should start going out to qualified borrowers in about 24 months.”

For those wanting to just meld into the mainstream, note that the case represents the first time that the Justice Department alleged and obtained relief for borrowers who were steered into loans based on race or national origin. The NAACP released a statement saying Bank of America "takes one more important step toward creating a fairer lending environment for consumers."

Ironically, over recent years it has become daily talk fare among African Americans to question “the NAACP’s relevance in modern American life.”  The mortgage industry discrimination suit shows the idiocy of such talk.  Were it not for the NAACP, the government wouldn’t have investigated embedded lending practices, and Countrywide would not be paying victims of its 2004 to 2007 discriminatory practices.  What does it take for us to realize that racism is alive and living in America and we need all the forces we can muster? The NAACP’s membership categories range from $30 “Annual” to $750 for “Lifetime.”  How many people being compensated by the settlement will send funds to: NAACP Memberships, 4805 Mt. Hope Drive, Baltimore, Md. 21215?

NAACP on charter schools: Separate and unequal is still wrong

Posted by Curmilus Dancy II (Butch) on June 25, 2011

Since 1909, the NAACP has worked with parents, educators, and administrators to ensure a better education for all children. Whether it is suing New Jersey to force them to provide quality, equitable education to its students or supporting the firing of teachers at a consistently failing school in Rhode Island, we have always fought, and will always fight, for the rights of children. The lawsuit we filed against the New York City Department of Education is firmly embedded within that tradition. (Read more)

Is there a word from Kojo? To: Kojo Nantambu, President, Charlotte-Mecklenburg NAACP

Posted by Curmilus Dancy II (Butch) on May 31, 2011

To: Kojo Nantambu,
President, Charlotte-Mecklenburg NAACP

Dear Mr. Nantambu,

Let me start by acknowledging that I owe an eternal debt to the NAACP and your generation of civil rights warriors. Had it not been for the sacrifices you made, I would not have been able to accomplish all the things I’ve accomplished in my life. The barriers of discrimination were not lowered by magic or goodness; they were razed by the determined efforts of people like you. (Read more)

Note: Glenn H. Burkins, I understand where you are coming from however I believe that the NAACP stands on it’s on merit however others have an opinion of what they want to see the NAACP do. I just posted the mission on my blog thepoliticalagitator.com a couple of days ago because a local white Racist Rep. in the NC General Assembly called the NAACP "thugs!"

Yes the NAACP can speak to other issues and they should but others can not forget the Mission Statement which is the purpose.

To say, "Problem is, the NAACP of today seems to have only one primary tactic – shouting racism!," show that you are ignorant to what the NAACP stands for.

The mission statement: "The Mission of the NAACP is to ensure the political, educational, social and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate racial-hatred and racial discrimination."

I always say if one wants to pick a fight they ought to get their facts straight.

When I want to see something changed I fight for change. However to change the mission of the NAACP would be ignant as hell in my opinion and I would no longer need to be a member if we are not going to fight against RACIAL HATRED.

By the way I don’t know Kojo Nantambu and I don’t need to know him. However I am a proud card carrying Life Fully Paid Member of the NAACP. Curmilus Dancy II – Life Fully Paid Member NAACP

Do I agree with others all the time, hell no but when I want to see change, I fight hard and when I see I can’t accomplish it I examine to see if I want to stay an officer or if it is time to move on.

NAACP Mission Statement Is As Follows For Those Who Are Ignant To The Purpose, Black, Brown, White And Others All Benefits

Posted by Curmilus Dancy II (Butch) on May 29, 2011

NAACP Mission Statement

"The Mission of the NAACP is to ensure the political, educational, social and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate racial-hatred and racial discrimination."

Note: I read “all people” so for those who are ignant to the facts of who the NAACP fight for I am sharing the mission statement with you. Again it says, “all persons” not black, brown, white and other but “all persons.”

The sad part is “all persons” benefits from the work of the NAACP but because some white folks have a problem with black folks being vocal, they call us loud, noisey and etc. They have a problem with us not being afraid to speak out challenging the white man who try to oppress black, brown, other white folks. Many white folks suffer from the same discrimination that black, brown and other folks have to deal with but many of these white folks do not say anything because they have been conditioned just like some black and other folks to not question or to go against what their race of people are doing to them.

So when the NAACP does something that bring about change “all persons” benefits even those who don’t stand up for themselves.

Thank you NAACP for continuing the good fight because it is our moral obligation to fight for what is right even for those who are not willing to fight for themselves.

I have been a member of the NAACP since 1992 and I have been a Life Fully Paid Member since 2008. I am a proud daily card carrier and I will continue to carry it all the days of my life because I know what the purpose. The main thang is I am a voice for “all persons” and I don’t give a damn whether some black, brown, white and other like it or not because it is not about them anyway but about what is right.

Should the NAACP Reward Artists Who Promote Sexism and the N-Word?–Source: BlackVoices

Posted by Curmilus Dancy II (Butch) on March 10, 2011

Last night, I was up watching last year’s Hip-Hop Honors on VH-1. I knew that it wasn’t live, since the rappers T.I. and Gucci Mane weren’t in jail. In fact, I find it interesting that I had to count and remember which artists were incarcerated out of the bunch, since it seems that hip-hop has now made it cool to go to jail, at least for a little while. President Barack Obama Haters, “Let It Go!!”

Posted by Curmilus Dancy II (Butch) on July 17, 2010

Yes he is a very intelligent man. I found him on the internet and was following him when he was running for the Senate and was on his mailing list at that time. I had no idea he would one day become my President and especially so soon. This is a prime example that it does not matter where a black man goes to school, live a good life and strive to do the right thing, he still don’t get the respect that he truly deserves. But as long as the black man recognizes that it is what it is and can continue to move forward and not backwards it is well with our soul.

You say, "He did better than most politicians in explaining exactly what he wanted to do if elected. The problem is that people in general don’t know what they are voting for." We all should know that many people vote because it is the right thing to do. Many vote because of influence from others, family, friends, organizations, tv and/or whatever.

But you see this is nothing new. I have always asked people to learn about the candidate and not just take my word. Now if it is somebody I truly trust in then I will sometimes take their word especially if time does not allow me to do some research.

While the NAACP is devoted towards “equality”, I am still saddened that an organization has become in some cases “get whitey, its his fault”.

Oh hell no, I beg the difference when it comes to the NAACP educating people about what a candidate stands for. They are always having candidates forum so not going to let that be the gospel. I have been involved in the education process on the local and state level but have been connected with many branches across the nation and the national. Literature goes out almost daily about what is going on all around us and people who read the information have the opportunity to read and make an informed decision for themselves.

No I do not know and do not care about how many states will sue over the healthcare bill. Some folks do not want to see anything that they feel black folks will benefit from.

I do want to add that "White Republicans" who are serving us in Washington do not support our President. They probably never will and it is my opinion they do not want to hear anything that our President has to say simply because he is black. Having to report to a black man is something that some folks will never be able to live with. Hell none of us agree with everything that everybody does even husbands/wives/children and etc. but damn when one does something that we can appreciate then we ought to celebrate that moment. I have not seen this with "whitey" as you so clearly stated who have issues with our President. Hell I had issues with many Presidents before our President now but I be damn if I disrespected them as many "whiteys" have done since our President has been "ELECTED" to office.

I read literature and receive literature from some white school classmates and some others who are constantly sending out mess about our President. One white guy has a damn video that he wanted to talk about that supposedly shows our President saying he was not born in America. Well damn if it is on video and an be proven then this is just totally ignant on this white brothers behalf because we all know that our President would not be in office.

When in the hell will they "whitey" as you so clearly stated let it go. Damn let it go until the next election and the people will speak again just like they did during the last Presidential Election. But you see some folks just don’t get it.

Hell all I have to say to anyone who have a problem with our President, vote against him during the next election. This is how I do and the NAACP as well.

The above is my response to a comment on my blog related to an article in the Washington Post, “What the NAACP is really asking on racism within the Tea Party?”

Trial clears coach – Source: The Rocky Mount Telegram

Posted by Curmilus Dancy II (Butch) on February 13, 2010

In response to: Trial Clears coach

Okay I got that, Whitley’s attorney, Joe Hester, argued that his client was merely disciplining the child after a dangerous and reckless play. I have no problem with disciplining but when has it become legal to physically discipline a child? Maybe the parents signed something that gave the coach the right to  PHYSICALLY disciplining the child.

According to several witnesses, Whitley chased the boy and spanked him on his rear end during a summer practice at Tom Stith Park after the boy made a blatant late hit on another player, who was on the ground. So when has it become legal for a coach white or black to spank a child without the consent of the parent?

I understand, “The primary goal for these coaches is to teach the kids how to play football in a safe manner,” Hester said." However I am missing something when PHYSICAL discipline is made an exception and not the rule. I don’t give a damn if the coach is white or black.

I understand the coach says, “The lateness of the hit as well as the spearing is what caught my attention,” Whitley said. “I almost did a double take.” Well damn I attended a couple of Cougar Cubs games at home and away and I seen some late hits and even seen the rescue squad come to pick up some small children during the 1st 2 games I attended. I said these small children are more physical than the big children. I didn’t see any coaches PHYSICALLY discipline any of the small children.

I understand, "Disciplining a child because of a dangerous hit is about “providing a safe atmosphere” for the players, Joe Bell said from the stand. Bell, also a coach at the time of the incident, said coaches have to teach children to tackle correctly so they don’t break their necks." I have no problem with a coach teaching children to tackle correctly but I am not understanding where the PHYSICAL discipline comes in at? This has not been explained throughout this article. Maybe I had to be in court to understand it.

Now the following makes the most sense in this article, "Whitley, tearing up at one point, said he regretted how things turned out.

“I didn’t handle it as well as I should have,” Whitley said."

I understand and recognize that the coach got caught up in the heat of the moment however I commend him for admitting it. I hate it happened like that but sometimes we do some things we regret we have done however it does not make it right. So if the coach admitted he didn’t handle it as well as he should then how in the hell can all of the emphasis be put on the child, a child who acted like a child but the coach is an adult and an attorney. This goes to show that we all children and adults sometimes make bad choices but how we acknowledge the actions is the key.

Now this was right on point, "Halifax County Assistant District Attorney Vershenia Moody argued during her closing remarks that Whitley’s years of volunteering as a coach don’t make up for the fact that he crossed the line when he inappropriately disciplined the player.

“What caused (Whitley) to lose his cool, I would submit, was when (the boy) ran away,” Moody said. “By that time, we had gotten beyond providing a safe atmosphere.”

I totally agree with DA Moody.

Now as it relates to Rocky Mount NAACP President Andre Knight’s role. He was carrying out his duty as President and that was to represent the parent/child. This is the same as the role of the attorneys in this case.

Mike I am trying to understand why you recognized Andre Knight as a Rocky Mount City Councilman and then later as President of the NAACP. Are you saying he asked the coach to resign as a City Councilman or as President of the NAACP?

I understand how Knight can say he was concerned race might have been a factor. Not only was race a factor however I can see other factors coming into play. The coach being an attorney, hell I sympathize with him because of that fact because I would hate to see his career go down the drain because of this incident.

I understand the coach had no children on the field and has donated countless hours to serving children and community by volunteering as a coach. I feel his pain however it does not justify the PHYSICAL discipline in my opinion.

I agree the community need more people to volunteer their time however I be damn in we need volunteers whom can not discipline themselves and I don’t give a damn if they are white or black.

Note: I had stopped attending basketball games at SouthWest Edgecombe several years ago because I didn’t like the actions of a coach during the games throwing chairs and acting like he was drunk, in which he probably was. But one day some parents asked me to attend a meeting and they talked about the coach. But one of my major problems during that meeting was when a husband and wife had an issue with the coach but said their child had made a damn "E" on his report card. I didn’t know these parents like that but I called them when after the meeting and told them that I had an issue with them sitting in a meeting complaining about a coach when their child had an "E." I said first of all the coach would have to discipline my child because my child would not be on the team with such grade. But the main thing is the way this coach acted, my child if he was an "A" student I would not have allowed him to play on his team. I questioned the parents how in the heck did they allow their children to play on this coach team? The coach was white and the child was black.

Oh well call me a racist but I don’t care because I try to look at the whole picture and the facts in cases that I am familiar with and then I give my opinion. Anytime there are people of difference races involved, race is a factor to a certain degree. Whites and blacks do not have the same resources in most cases. This do not make it a bad thing always but just a FACT!!
