Ignant Column: I Hate It When Folks Are Ignant To What The NAACP Stand For And How Rev. Al Sharpton Operates Especially Those On WHIG TV, FM 99.3 The Morning Show And Other Local Media

Posted by Curmilus Dancy II (Butch) on April 2, 2012

As a Life Fully Paid Member of the NAACP you need to do your homework as it relates to what the NAACP stands for. Those of you who are ignant to what the NAACP mission, vision statement and objectives are you need to read it before you open your mouth and make a damn fool of yourself.

As it relates to Rev. Al Sharpton and some other activist you need to understand what role they play also.

I was looking at WHIG TV Morning Show on Monday night and David Joyner talked about his brother getting killed in Rocky Mount. A white caller called in talking about he was not trying to stir up anything but he wanted to know why the NAACP, the Rev. Al Sharpton’s and others don’t speak up about black on black crime. However that is totally false.

As it relates to David Joyner’s brother getting killed show me how the NAACP’s mission, vision statement and objectives relate. The NAACP get involved in things when people come to them and fill out a complaint as it relates to the mission, vision statement and objectives.

Rev. Al Sharpton was called to Sanford Florida by the family to come down to help them with the exposure. Rev. Al could not have gone to Florida and done a damn thing without the family working with him. He would be ignant as hell to go to Florida without the family’s permission.

Recently I received a phone call about an incident dealing with some young students and was anybody doing anything about it? I said I can’t get involved if the parents do not allow me to get involved because first of all it is a personnel manner and I don’t know all the facts just what I read in the local papers and heard in the community. Only a damn fool would try to fight a cause when they have not heard from those involved and being given permission to work with them.

To all the ignant folks who talk about what black folks especially the NAACP, the Rev. Al Sharptons and folks like myself who have been labeled by ignant white and black folks I challenge black, brown, white and other folks all the time. My blog speaks to it. I have been calling in and have hosted radio and tv shows speaking out about issues be they black, brown, white and/or other.

When it comes to the local radio and tv talk shows so many folks are afraid to call in and respond to the ignant callers. I work during the day so therefore I miss the shows unless I just happen to be off work on a give day. However I look at a local tv talk show every night but it is pre-recorded so I can’t call in. Damn this bothers me because the ignant folks are winning because many times no one calls in and challenge them.

I will continue to be speak up about issues and people and don’t give a damn who gets mad.

Note: Know that being ignant is not always a bad thing, however it is a bad thing when you don’t do anything about it especially when you are trying to discredit others. Know what you are talking about when you open your mouth so you will not make a damn fool out of yourself.

NAACP Sponsors Education Forum to Discuss Possible Legislative Impacts on Public Education

Rocky Mount, NC – The Rocky Mount Branch of the NAACP, in conjunction with area ministers, will host a discussion with local and statewide leaders in education.  “The NC General Assembly is on a fast track to drastically change the face of public education,” Andre’ Knight, President of the Rocky Mount Branch said. “We want to make sure that our local legislators and the people they serve understand the full ramifications that Senate Bill 8 will have on public schools in the Nash/Rocky Mount and Edgecombe County Public Schools.”  This bill deals with lifting the cap on charter schools in North Carolina as well as their funding and governance.

The Education Forum will be held in the OIC Auditorium located at 402 E. Virginia Street at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 24th.  Reuben Blackwell, NC NAACP Community Coordination Chair stated, “The North Carolina NAACP and the HKonJ coalition has made a clear call to all chapters throughout the state to support progressive legislation that helps every child in North Carolina receive a sound education.  We want to have a good dialogue that might help our legislators craft and support bills that will move our state forward, not cripple and destroy public education opportunities for every child.”

Confirmed panelists to date are: Rick McMahon, Retiring Nash/Rocky Mount Public Schools Superintendent; Marvin Pittman, Education Consultant and former Associate Superintendent of NC Public Schools; Evelyn Wilson, Chair of the Edgecombe County Board of Education; Michael Pratt, Headmaster, Rocky Mount Preparatory School; Keith Sutton, Wake County School Board Member; and NC Rep. Angela Bryant.  The complete delegation of members of the NC General Assembly from the Twin Counties has been invited to attend and participate.

Andre’ Knight added, “This forum is for everyone. We want to be able to discuss issues related to charter schools, education tax credits and any other issue that is relevant to the education of our children and that will either help our eastern North Carolina economies grow or fail.  We need everyone to be concerned and to attend. ”

In re: In response to Memo received Res: November Elections

I received a Memo to branch members from Paula Dickens, Secretary and cc:’ed to branch executive board dated October , 2010 no day. The envelope is postmarked October 21, 2010.

There are 3 dates mentioned. The following is a briefing of each point and I can fax a copy of the original memo if necessary.

1. On Thursday, September 28, 2010 at 7:00 PM there will be an election of the Nominating Committee . . .

2. On Thursday, October 28, 2010 at 7:00 PM there will be a report of the Nominating Committee, receipt of Nominations by Petition and election of the Election Supervisory Committee . . .

3. On Saturday, November 20, 2010, the election of officers and at-large members of the Executive Committee . . .

What pisses me off about all of this is the Memo ended with, “We look forward to your participating in these activities” What a lie.

I forwarded the following message on the following date to those mentioned below and I have not heard anything from anyone.

Greetings Mr. President, Executive Committee and Nominating Committee:

I understand that you all went on with the meeting tonight Thursday, October 29, 2010 as planned and completed the nomination process. I am told that Mattie Hinton is calling the shots as it relates to the nomination process however I have not received anything about who is handling what. I understand that Paula was not present but the assistant secretary was which Ms. Dickens Paula’s mom. I am wondering why my letter was not read at the meeting.

After reviewing the Elections Manual I am requesting the following:

1. NAACP Candidates Consent Form

2. Nomination Petition For Nomination

I am requesting to receive this information from the branch in the mail and that all NAACP members of this branch be mailed copies also.

Thanking you in advance.

As I read over the 2010 Manual On Branch Elections Procedures I am challenging the Rocky Mount Branch Election because they have not followed the procedures.

1. I have not received a Candidates Nomination Form.

2. Did not receive NOTICE TO THE GENERAL MEMBERSHIP (Required)

3. THE SEPTEMBER MEETING OF THE GENERAL MEMBERSHIP – Requesting minutes

4. ELECTING THE NOMINATING COMMITTEE – Requesting name of committee members.

5. The Nominating Committee should make it known to the General Membership that it is available to interview members interested in being considered for office or membership on the Executive Committee. – Was not notified.

6. The Nominating Committee shall nominate only those persons who have given written consent to be nominated. Before the Branch accepts the Nominating Committee report, the Secretary shall verify that each nominee has given written consent. Requesting to see written consent and how did the secretary verify each nominee.

7. The Nominating Committee shall submit a report in writing at the October meeting of the General Membership. – Requesting report.

8. NOMINATIONS BY PEITITON – From what I understand there were people nominated during the October meeting who did not have Nomination Petition so therefore these folks are null and void. Requesting minutes that reflect what happened during this time.

I am requesting that the Rocky Mount NAACP Branch Elections be cancelled for November 20, 2010 in order that the branch follows the procedures for electing officers. I am requesting that Mattie Hinton whom I have been told was the Nominating Chair be removed because this type of behavior has been carried out during the past 2 elections.

I did not receive anything from the branch during the previous election as well and I believe that Mattie Hinton has been the nomination chairperson both times.

As we all know there has been some tension between the President Andre Knight and Mattie Hinton 1st Vice President and her daughter Theresa Hinton Secretary over the past several years in which the last episode made its way to the National Office. It is clear that there is a scheme for Mattie Hinton to put in place who she would like to see hold offices and therefore I guess she feel she can be in control.

Now, who am I? I have been a member of this branch since 1993 and I have served as the 3rd, 2nd, 1st Vice President and on the executive committee. I am a life fully paid member and I have been disrespected by this branch during the past 2 elections when it comes to election time. I have spoken to several members of the branch whom say they have not received anything from the branch as it relates to elections.

I trust that I will hear from the branch asap so that I will not have to go public with this matter.

Thanking you in advance.

The struggle continues,

I Attended The Local NAACP Meeting on Thursday And Friday I Received A Call About The President Talking About Someone

Posted by Curmilus Dancy II (Butch) on June 26, 2010

I attended the NAACP meeting on Thursday evening and I thought it went well. This was the 1st meeting that I have attended since last year because several folks keep mess stirred up. The last time I attended a meeting the State NAACP President Rev. William J. Barber II and Carl White District Director were present.

On yesterday I received a phone call that Ms. Mattie called to “The Truth Hurts Talk Show” and said that Rocky Mount NAACP President Andre Knight had talked about Bronson Williams the owner of FM 107.3 The Promise and host of The Truth Hurts Talk Show. Bronson’s name didn’t come up during the time I was at the meeting.

Bronson Williams formed the “The Truth Hurts Talk Show” to talk about the Rocky Mount City Council and the Utility Bills. Williams has been trying to pull some folks together to deal with the issue of “high utilities” in Rocky Mount NC.

I do not believe the President would have talked about Bronson in the negative at the meeting knowing that a mother and daughter who are members would put it out there.

I called the President on yesterday but he was in a banquet so I am waiting to hear back from him so that I can ask him what was said at the meeting before I arrived.

What did happen at the meeting is a female whom is a new member, I believe is the publicity chair, asked a member to pass me a copy of the agenda. The female member said to her, “I am not passing that to him,” however I couldn’t hear the rest of what she said. This person is the treasurer and do not like me because of the President. She also sent me a Christmas Card a couple of years ago and I returned it to sender. Why in the hell would she send me a Christmas Card when she do not like me? You see this is why I do not attend the meetings because I don’t have time for her and her mother’s drama.

As soon as I hear from the President I am going to post my findings. I may ask for some contacts for some others who attended the meeting to ask them what was said.

Stay tuned.

Note: Spoke to the President and he said that it came up about the utilities and he said that Bronson was lining up with some folks who are with the Tea Party who have other agendas.

He said it was said that the NAACP need to reach out to Bronson because he was a mouthpiece and his broadcast is heard as far as up to Virginia.

Utilities was an agenda item for Thursday’s meeting because it  was discussed at the May meeting. The President didn’t attend the May meeting because he was out of town attending the National NAACP Leadership 500 Summit in Florida.

I have said it over and over again we can have our differences however when there is something that we can do to help make a difference for all folks then we need to lay our differences aside. Sometimes some folks just need to go home, sit down and shut the hell up. Rev. Al Sharpton said it best in this video, “If You Are Scared, Say It.”
