PNC Financial Services Group could eliminate more than 600 jobs in Raleigh and Rocky Mount as a result of its acquisition of RBC Bank.
The Pittsburgh-based bank detailed the cuts in a notice filed Friday with the N.C. Department of Commerce. The layoffs represent about 40 percent of RBC’s workforce in the two cities. (More)

RALEIGH (WTVD) — Nearly 100 employees with the Wake County Public School System learned Tuesday evening they will be out of a job by the end of June.
The cuts are just one of the major developments to come out of what became a very intense meeting.

TARBORO — Faced with layoffs that may include teaching positions due to a budget shortfall, several Edgecombe County Board of Education members traveled to San Francisco last month for the annual National School Board Conference. (Read more)
Note: I am so glad I understand politics and business as it relates to boards and etc. I find it so funny at times when some folks have a problem with some things that takes place because of personal reasons.
I have some issues with some folks that sits on boards in Edgecombe County especially the school board. However I will not allow my personal issues with them about things as it relates to all children in Edgecombe County cloud my what is justifiable and what is not. I will not bash them for doing things that makes sense.
Board retreats and etc. are figured into the budget and required by most boards especially the school boards. So just because there are some areas that need to be improved, the board still must should attend retreats and etc. so they can get some knowledge of what they can bring back to share within their systems.
I have no problem with monies being spent for the boards to go and learn things that can help Edgecombe County. However I have a problem when the members go to the training but don’t actually attend the sessions and/or do not come back and put into use what they have learned.
It is not the board members fault that the state cut their budget so therefore they have to layoff employees.
I say let’s not get caught up into dollars and sense when there is really no validity to trying to justify boards attending retreats and etc. vs. the need for layoffs which is totally beyond the board’s control. Curmilus Dancy II The Political Agitator
