STATE NAACP PRESIDENT ANNOUNCES NEXT STEPS IN DEFENSE OF PUBLIC SECTOR AT
LABOR, FAITH & CIVIL RIGHTS PRESS CONFERENCE
(Raleigh) NC NAACP State President, Rev. Dr. William J. Barber, II stood in solidarity today representing more than 120 NAACP units across the state, more than 107 HK on J People’s Assembly Coalition partnering organizations, as well as with union and faith leaders at a press conference today focusing on four major areas renewing the call for:
- The Repeal of North Carolina General Statute 95-98, which prohibits public sector workers from collective bargaining;
- A People’s Budget and over the next few weeks in at least 20 areas in North Carolina, the HK on J People’s Assembly Coalition working with as many friends in labor and faith, will hold People’s Collective Bargaining Rights and People’s Budgets people assemblies for economic justice, workers’ rights, and the need for a fair people’s budget throughout NC;
- Strong support for the March 9 People of Color/ NAACP/ HK on J Unity and Legislative Day, which will call for an end to racial disparities, for equal education, economic justice, workers’ rights, a true and fair people’s budget, and equal protection under the law; and
- In addition, Rev. Barber released the national NAACP Board resolution unanimously passed this weekend stating that the NAACP opposes draconian measures aimed at eviscerating public sector employment unions.
