Response: I like the following: A mall in Milwaukee implemented a policy requiring anyone under the age of 18 to be accompanied by a parent or guardian after 2 p.m. each day.
You say will those restrictions better suit the Rocky Mount market and went on to say it is a tough call. I say yes because several incidents have occurred at the mall. I don’t like malls and do very little to no shopping at malls unless I just have to.
I don’t care how many patrols are in the shopping center they probably will not be able to stop such incidents because there will be some spots where there will not be a patrol at any given time.
However I believe that all malls need to put cameras at every entrance and have someone to watch them to see who are coming in and going out. They could monitor how they look and if they look suspicious they could telephone another patrol to go to where they are and monitor them. And if something should happen in the mall and the suspects leave the mall suspiciously they should be able to catch them on camera running out of the mall.
I think a meeting need to be called with the mall owner, managers, law enforcement and the community to discuss the most recent incident and to give their input on what they think will help with trying to keep the mall safe. C. Dancy II – DCN Publisher
Rocky Mount Telegram: Rocky Mount and Golden East Crossing mall are by no means the only shopping centers ever to wrestle with security issues in the wake of a shooting.
The gunfire that erupted Saturday night at Golden East was by all accounts terrifying for shoppers and merchants. That can’t be overstated. But we were fortunate that only one person suffered a minor injury. (More)
