Hey All,
Yesterday in the City of Rocky Mount, we had a funeral for a 38 year old Sheriff’s Deputy. This deputy, who seemed to be in good health, died during physical training for the NC DMV. I’m 40. 38 is younger than me. Regardless of how old we are, we need to have our own affairs in order and adequately plan to provide for our families in the event of our premature demise.
A few weeks ago, a Pastor friend of mine, and I were having a conversation. He remarked to me that most people (even some Pastors) did not know the true cost of what a funeral would cost a family today. We’ve heard different amounts over the years, but he says that when a family is faced with the death of a loved one, this is when they get the cold hard facts.
Some families are prepared, and some are not. Some families have to literally pass a hat around and collect as much as they can from other family members and friends. Once several years ago, my wife and I were walking into K-Mart, and a lady stopped us and asked us if we would donate money as she was trying to raise money to funeralize her mother. I know this had to be demeaning and demoralizing.
When we lose a loved one, we are emotionally distraught. It has to be even more taxing on the family having to make all of these necessary (but probably distasteful) decisions.
Over the years of being in the Financial Services industry I have seen this stressful time bring out the worst in some family members. The lack of money to fulfill these needs will make an outsider question whether or not these really are actually family.
I have done and included a study of what a typical funeral may cost today. This study is only as estimate. It could be higher or lower depending on a myriad of other variables. These variables may include whether your loved one already has a plot or family land. It may include how many flowers you actually buy, what type of casket is used, etc. etc. etc. I am not a funeral director. I am simply trying to provide some information that may be helpful to you and your family.

And for those of you who know that you don’t have enough coverage to protect your family I have attached our Simple Final Expense plans designed primarily for funeral expenses. Final Expense policies are nice because they are easy to qualify for (if you can answer yes to 5 simple questions, you will be approved).
With a Final Expense policy (separate for your larger, more elaborate policies), you can take the policy to your funeral director. He/She will help you pick out and plan your family member’s funeral. He will then have you sign an assigment form. He/she will process the paperwork with the insurance company and your agent. The insurance company will mail a check directly to the funeral home and mail you the difference (if there is any).
There are two guides attached. The Comparison Guide tells you how much insurance coverage you can buy for $20, $30, or $40 per month. The Simple Premium Guide shows how much $10,000 or $25,000 would actually cost you per month.
As always, if we have any questions or concerns, or ready to provide the necessary protection you need please feel free to call me at 252-955-0206 (mobile) or 888-766-4675 (office).
