SouthWest Edgecombe remained the only area high school football team ranked in The Associated Press weekly poll but Hunt and Southern Nash are knocking on the door.
The Cougars, 6-1 overall, defeated 2-A Eastern Plains Conference rival Farmville Central 38-14 on Saturday night and moved into a tie with Polk County for the No. 5 spot in the 2-A rankings. SouthWest, which spent three weeks at No. 2, had dropped to the sixth spot following its only loss, a 24-22 verdict to Kinston on Sept. 24. (Read more)
