At least two property owners say a judge who last week dismissed a lawsuit contesting a poultry processor should have recused himself from the case because of a 2006 fundraiser for his campaign held by a Nash County commissioner. (Paid Content)

Nash County Commissioner Robbie Davis was active in early negotiations to target land for Sanderson Farms in southern Nash County. Davis, in deposition testimony that’s part of a rezoning lawsuit, described early deals on property for a poultry processing plant, hatchery and spray fields. (Paid Content)

Officials: Proposed Sanderson Farms site improperly zoned–Source: The Rocky Mount Telegram

A high-ranking Sanderson Farms executive has acknowledged that the rezoning of several hundred acres of land for a proposed poultry plant was incorrectly done.

Nash County officials say they are deciding on how to fix several errors in the a Nov. 1 rezoning of 150 acres at the southeast quadrant of N.C. 97 and Interstate 95. Most of the land in that area was zoned for residential use, and the Nash County Board of Commissioners rezoned the acreage to general industrial zoning — that allows more than 195 uses, possibly including the company’s poultry plant.
