CASWELL COUNTY SHOOTING OF CHILDREN

and other Community Leaders and Citizens of Caswell County
WHAT: Press Conference
WHEN: Tuesday, February 22, 2011, at 9:00AM

(Durham) – It has been 532 days since the shooting of school aged children by a Caswell County man and still no prosecution. State NAACP President, Rev. Dr. William J. Barber, II joined by the Caswell County Branch President, Mr. Nathaniel Hall, will conduct a press conference with families of the victims, area clergy and fellow citizens next Tuesday, February 22.
Mr. John Fuqua was charged with shooting and injuring three small children who were innocently walking on Brown Road in a rural part of Caswell County on September 5, 2009, using a 12-gauge shotgun. Although two children were struck with the shot-gun pellets—one in the head and the other in the shoulder, three children were injured, each child suffered psychological harm and mental distress and continue those injuries today.
Also the then elected District Attorney has been disbarred and removed from office and the Assistant District Attorney who was assigned to prosecute the case resigned following the election of the new District Attorney. The U.S. Department of Justice opened a federal investigation of the shooting after the National NAACP examined the case and was convinced there was probable cause for bringing charges for federal crimes. The N.C. NAACP renews its call for a full federal investigation since Mr. Fuqua has not been brought to justice some 532 days since the shooting.
