A co-worker just asked me about a guy from Tarboro that was a track star and I said it had to be Carter Ray. I used to pass Carter Ray on 64 every morning nearly as we were on our way to work. I thought he worked in Rocky Mount until I learned today that he worked in Enfield Halifax County.
Carter Ray loved children and I remember him coming to Pinetops several years ago for 2 summers on Saturday mornings to help with Dr. William “Billy” Taylor to run a Saturday morning flag football program. We also went on 2 trips to a HBCU to take the children to give them some exposure to the college campus.
