GASTONIA, N.C. Gaston County school officials are offering an apology to a 9-year-old boy who was suspended for sexual harassment after he was accused of calling a teacher "cute."
WSOC-TV reported ( http://bit.ly/uR3COp) that school officials issued a statement Tuesday saying it was determined that the fourth grader at Brookside Elementary School did not engage in sexual harassment. The statement said the superintendent was attempting to contact the family to issue an apology to the mother and the student.
The statement said the suspension will not count against the student, and there will be additional instructional assistance provided to the student for the classroom time missed. (More)
Response: This was just crazy as hell. I understand the Zero Tolerance for behavior in North Carolina Schools but this was just ridiculous because I just could not believe this “cute” thing was spelled out in a policy but without seeing the policy I could be wrong. I am so glad to see the issue being resolved. However though I have always said that if it is Zero Tolerance for students it should be Zero Tolerance for staff. You see I have challenged my local school system on following and/or not following their own policies and procedures. C. Dancy II

A 9-year-old boy North Carolina boy was suspended for calling a teacher “cute,” WSOCTV.com reports.
The boy’s mother, Chiquita Lockett, said the principal of Brookside Elementary in Gastonia called her after the incident to say the comment was a form of “sexual harassment.” (More)
