When I began to get involved in politics around the age of 23 the old black guards disrespected me more so than the whites. Other young folks that came to the table stayed no time because they refused to be disrespected. I stayed on and put up a damn good fight and made their a… miserable as hell. Today at the age of 48 I am still fighting the some of the same old black guards who continue to hold us where we are. Many of them get behind closed doors and talk about they want what is good for black folks and all folks but then when the time come to do something they do totally opposite. The old black guards will sell their damn souls during election time for some crumbs while those who call themselves the good people continue to appoint and re-elect the same people who are working against us.
Until black folks come together and put aside their foolishness our young folks are going to continue to go to prison because look at what the old guards are doing. How many black leaders really promote our youths? How many black churches really support our youths? How many black folks support the real leaders who attend meetings and speak out on issues? How many black old guards retire from their jobs, especially educators give back to our communities by helping our youths? How many black school alumni s’ work with our youth during the school year but at the end they have banquets and etc. to give out a few dollars in scholarships but damn the youth are suffering the entire school year.
I have been working since I was 5 years old, my dad and mom worked a public job plus we farmed and my dad who worked on his job for 44 years and farmed retired about 10 years ago. My dad and I still plant about 50 acres of Soy Beans. I only have a high school diploma and I have been blessed to have worked at one of the highest paid places of employment east of Raleigh for the past 24 years and 5 months. I have never wanted for anything but I have been advocating since the early 90′s for children and those who are afraid and/or don’t fight for themselves. But the old black guards are jealous of me because I am not afraid to speak out and they do not want to support me however they and/or their children have benefited from the various boards I have challenged here in Edgecombe County and it is documented in their minutes and on my videos. The youth know me because they know I fight for them. I do what I do with the limited resources that I have.
Our youth know the majority of our local leaders ain’t bout manure so therefore they are disrespected and they know it. The leaders know they are disrespectful but they just say the youth needs to wait. While we wait we are losing our youths to prisons and to the graveyards.
Note: You see some folks will say here he go again talking about himself. Hell yeah if I don’t tell my story who will. How can I get my point across without telling what I have done? I don’t do it for recognition because I get my blessings everyday when the Good Master wakes me up and start me on my way. But that is the problem, our youth are not being recognized because the old guards are stuck on themselves and never allow the youth to be heard until they use them to make themselves look good such as Dr. Martin L. King Holiday activities. Curmilus Dancy II – The Political Agitator
