How did Baskerville Elementary School achieve Annual Yearly Progress when the schools around it – O.R. Pope and D.S. Johnson Elementary schools – who have students from the same social and economic families, failed miserably on the same criteria?

There is surely something wrong, especially when the same students, by the tens, transfer in and out – rotating among the three elementary schools every year. (Read more)

Note: I have been waiting to see a response on this matter from folks in Rocky Mount. You gotta read this story in full to get the full effect of what this letter to the editor is saying. Since I follow Edgecombe County Public Schools, I can’t relate to this but if I don’t see a response soon, I will have to contact somebody to see if I can get a response. Six out of 42 schools in both Nash-Rocky Mount and Edgecombe County public school districts met the federal standards for Adequate Yearly Progress in the 2010-11 school year. (Read more)
