20 classroom slots trimmed in ECPS cuts – Daily Southerner

Posted by Curmilus Dancy II (Butch) on April 16, 2012

Response: It appears that Board Chair Ann Kent is trying to send some kind of message to the employees as she continue to talk about she is disappointed that the board didn’t cut back on the travel and training. But Kent was the only one, I repeat the only one who brought up about cutting to the table without giving it to those who worked on the other cuts and the main thing is not having a discussion with the other board members. Presentation as board member Attorney Teresa D. Bryant so eloquently stated when the board discussed the matter. Kent chose travel and training easily because she has not and do not do any although the board is suppose to receive a minimum of 12 hours of training each year. Kent stop trying to send some kind of message to the employees of the county when you did not get with your fellow board members first. It is time for you to stop singing that song and work with the budget that was presented and voted upon. C. Dancy II – DCN Publisher

TARBORO — Thirty-nine positions in the Edgecombe County Public Schools (ECPS) system have been eliminated, including 20 classroom positions, as part of budget cuts in the 2012-2013 budget. The budget was adopted Monday night by the Edgecombe County Board of Education. (More)

Ann Kent Edgecombe County Public Schools Board Chair Presentation About “Her” Wanting The Board To Cut Their Own Budget Training And Traveling Sucked

Posted by Curmilus Dancy II (Butch) on April 12, 2012

Again the local papers the Daily Southerner seems to be printing one sided information which could cause some confusion and some hate from some whom work in the Edgecombe County Public Schools.

I have heard that some school employees were somewhat excited about Kent asking the board to cut their own budget. So that means that these employees were looking for that to happen at the Monday night meeting so now that it didn’t I am quite sure they are pissed. But you see if these employees would attend the meetings they would know what goes on. You see it is no way that I would work for a system, entity and etc. and I not attend the monthly meetings whereby my bosses are making decisions that affect me.

The local newspaper did not mention anything about the discussion and that is just wrong. The Daily Southerner paper printed the following:

Board chair Ann Kent said she was disappointed the board did not act on her suggestion from last month’s meeting that board members reduce travel expenses by 20 percent and workshop expenses by 25 percent.

“I’m very disappointed that the board did not feel that their budget should be cut when we cut everyone else’s budget,” said Kent.

It is my opinion that this paper is painting a negative picture of the board on the issue of them cutting their own budget without posting the discussion on why the board didn’t act on her suggestion. Well damn if she had presented it correctly they would have acted on it. Also if she had asked the superintendent and the others to do a study on where they could cut their budget just like they did the rest of the budget.

What the school employees and the citizens of Edgecombe County ought to be pissed about is Ann Kent the board chair do not complete her 12 hours of minimum training required by the board. It is obvious she chose the training and travel because she do not participate in the 2 but wants to cut others that participates. It seems to be an attack on former board chair Evelyn Wilson whom have always participated in both over the years and stated at the March meeting that she would go to the training if she had to pay her own way. This was not mentioned in this paper last month nor this month. Dr. Evelyn Johnson also stated her concerns about the cuts last month because she said the board is the leader and need to receive the proper training and to go places so that they can get the real feel for what others are doing across the nation.

Another thing the paper printed that should have been reported more in depth and that is the following:

The budget cuts will result in the elimination of 39 jobs.

I find it interesting that the paper didn’t print that there are jobs that are on freeze because there will be some employees retiring and/or leaving for whatever reasons. This means that the employees that will fall in the 39 may be able to apply for the frozen positions.

I voice my opinions at the meetings and on my blog but I am different from the local newspapers because I video the entire meetings and post the video on The DCN TV so that school employees, citizens and whomever may be concerned can view it from the convenience of their home, office and/or etc. After viewing the video others can challenge my opinion but most of all form their own opinion. I have never had anyone to challenge my opinion after telling me they viewed the video that I provide. I don’t make the news I report it.

I have come to the conclusion that it is by design that the local newspaper continue to report half truth. Well you can count on Dancy Communications Network to provide the whole truth because I am going to provide the video of the entire meeting.

Now I come to one of my favorite quotes: “It is okay to be ignant to the facts but to not do anything about it can be a problem.”

Edgecombe County Public Schools 3 Reminds Me Of The Princeville Town Council 3, “Racism And/Or Power Struggle”

Posted by Curmilus Dancy II (Butch) on July 22, 2011

Rev. Roy Gray Sr. stated in his letter to The Daily Southerner, titled: “Gray, district needs a black” that Edgecombe County Public Schools board members former board chair Evelyn Wilson, Dr. Evelyn Johnson both black and Keith Pittman (white) voted for him and former board vice chair Ann Kent, Janice Davidson and Faye Taylor (white) voted for Thomas Wayne Edison during the appointment. The vote was deadlocked at 2 meetings and that lead Attorney Teresa D. Bryant to rescind her resignation.

I have named Kent, Davidson and Taylor the Edgecombe County Public Schools 3. They remind me of the Princeville Town Council 3 because Commissioners Isabelle Purvis-Andrews, Calvin Sherrod and Mayor Priscilla Everette-Oates almost always votes together at every meeting. Commissioners Ann Howell and Gwendolyn Knight always vote together.

I find it too damn funny that the ECPS 3 would vote for Edison who did a very poor job during the interview process and his main concern was reducing classroom size. So therefore in my opinion I feel strongly that the ECPS 3 want the board to be lily white and they are not concerned about the black children and the issues they face in District 2. Edison couldn’t speak to the issues in District 2 as it relates to the black children so therefore the appointment should have been a no-brainer.

Attorney Teresa D. Bryant is black and was elected by the people. The district is a minority-majority black district and was set up that way to ensure black representation. The make up of the district is 57% black and 8 % non-white so therefore the ECPS 3 in my opinion showed just how racist they are. I say that because they know the history of the district as it relates to why some others and myself requested that a black person be appointed. If this was an election by the people and the people voted in a white person, then so be it but the appointment should have been handed to a black person. Keeping in mind that no white person ran against Bryant who was appointed to replace Dr. Florence A. Armstrong (black) so therefore this is another reason to appoint a black. Bryant ran during the election without any opposition.

If I was a board member and if District 2 was not a minority-majority black district, I would have looked at who ran during the previous election, the numbers and the race of the voters who voted in the previous election and how the candidates responded during the interview process. I will use the same candidates that were seeking the appointment, I would have ranked them in the following order Gray, Robinson and Edison. I have made it known that I am not a fan of Gray however I have stated during the appointment process that I would have had to choose Gray because I would have not allowed it to be personal. I would have voted for him however I would have hoped that Bryant would seek election during the upcoming election in 2012.

I have said over and over again that the ECPS 3 shows how much they care about the children of Edgecombe County and should makes one wonder how much they care about the black children in the county. They don’t want them to have a black voice on the board because they have a 4-3 majority but they wanted it to be a 5-2 majority.

I love it when not only some white folks come to the meetings with their personal agendas but when some black folks with personal agendas as well because I am there always there. My personal agenda is the same holding the board accountable for their actions because I want what is best for all children in the county. Because I attend the meetings regularly and stay to the end when those with the personal agenda comes and leave when their item on the agenda has been brought forth, I can talk about them with no problem be they white or black. I love it when whites and blacks come to the meeting with their agenda knowing that I am there always and they don’t mention their concerns to me but then think I suppose to support their agendas. I don’t roll like that because I don’t give a damn if they are white or black. I have no permanent friends, no permanent enemies only permanent interest.

So there you have it, this is my spill on the Edgecombe County Public Schools (ECPS) 3.

I am Curmilus Butch Dancy II an effective community activist, The Political Agitator and The Watch Dog of the East however I know some others white and black have more names for me but that does not matter because I know who I am and whose I am and I don’t play. Time is too short and there is much work to be done.

Edgecombe County Public Schools Board Member Ann Kent Now Newly Elected Chair Responds To The Meeting That Was Scheduled For Today, Admits Didn’t Follow Their Policy

Posted by Curmilus Dancy II (Butch) on July 18, 2011

Thank you Board Chair Ann Kent for your response, I can’t say timely because you didn’t respond to me until 5:32 PM this evening and the meeting was scheduled for 12:30 PM.

I understand the urgency of the meeting however you ask that the children and me (a citizen) to follow your policy and procedures and this board don’t always follow their own policies and procedures. I have been challenging this board for years that you follow your own policies and procedures as you expect others and myself to do.

Where was the time and place 48 hour notice posted? It was not on the website on Friday evening per several sources whom contacted me after reading my concerns. You have admitted you didn’t follow your policy because the purpose was not listed. Time, date, place and purpose is a given so how was the purpose left out.

I thank you for acknowledging my interest in the system but I don’t need to be thanked. I have followed this board since the early 90’s so I feel like a member of the board. I followed this board long before I had a child to enter the system in 1998.

Thank you for responding to me although it was after the meeting. I am glad I didn’t ask to get off work today to attend the meeting when no action was taken.

The following is the response from Ann Kent: “Thank you for your interest in the board of education. Our meeting today as a susposed to be a quick closed session meeting to fill the two princials positions : Princeville and Pattillo. We tried to have a meeting as soon as the central office staff chose the candidates. We are hoping to have these people in place to begin planning for the fall start of school.

The time and place were posted 48 hours in advance, but the purpose was not listed. The board felt it in the best interest of the community to reschedule the meeting to allow Edgecombe County citizens time to plan to attend the meeting if they choose.

Thank you for your interest in our system.”

Video – Edgecombe County Public Schools BOE Voted 3 – 3 For Appointment & Votes To Replace Chair & Vice Chair Monday, July 11, 2011

Posted by Curmilus Dancy II (Butch) on July 14, 2011

Attorney Teresa D. Bryant remains on the board and Evelyn Wilson and Ann Kent switch roles as chair and vice chair.

See all of the people who spoke during the public comments. Former Principal Rev. Raymond Privott comments were powerful but the board ignored his plea to do the right thing.

Wilson said she has heard so much negativity since May and that it was said she wanted power. She said someone in the room at the moment has stated it. Wilson said she was going to show them what power is. See Wilson’s comments for yourself.
