Media Coverage – 2 Local School Systems Students Face Criminal Charges, 1 School All White Students, 1 School All Black Students. Was The News Coverage The Same?

So did anyone see this story Rocky Mount NC – School vandalism suspects face slew of charges – Rocky Mount Telegram all over the news, tv stations and etc.? Maybe I missed the tv broadcasts.
So did anyone see this story SouthWest Edgecombe High School Pinetops NC – An Open Letter To The Nine Students Athletes Arrested For Break-in? This one has been all over the news, tv stations and etc.
Just asking 2 schools 1 school being all white children and the other school being all black children. So was the media coverage the same?
I am not supportive of either crime being committed and only questioning the media coverage.

I saw coverage of both of these crimes online….one in the Rocky Mount Telegram and one in the Daily Southerner. Also, WRAL had stories on both of these crimes. The only difference is, in the stories I saw, the photographs of the suspects in the Faith Christian School incident were shown but the photographs were not shown of the SWE suspects. I’m not sure why this is the case. I think they should all be shown.

As to whether or not the boy who works at the car wash should be fired, I know that I wouldn’t feel comfortable having him as an employee….but I also believe that the owner would be the best person to make that call. Maybe he’s into giving people second chances. On the other hand, maybe he’s not willing to take the hit from a public relations standpoint for hiring a suspected vandal/thief.
If every employer fired every employee because he/she had a crimnal record, A LOT of people would be out of a job.
Response: Really? But this is in the beginning stages, as far as I know. There are programs that have been made available over the past several years for folks who have been in trouble and have had a hard time trying to find a job. I have a lot of experience working in the criminal justice field, and I know for a fact that many people we come into contact with every day have criminal records.

The person I have in mind has worked in the Edgecombe County Public Schools and Nash County systems, worked with other entities that I will not name and you recently posted about an employee of Edgecombe County Public Schools former employee just recently.

RESPONSE: I read about the FCS incident only in the Telegram (and on WRAL) and the SWE incident only in the Southerner (and on WRAL). I’ve heard from people in the community that the stories were reported elsewhere, but I haven’t seen it for myself. I feel satisfied that they were both handled appropriately by the media, except for the fact that the SWE students’ photos weren’t (to my knowledge) broadcast.

RESPONSE: I can assure you that my name is Bindy Sanders and that I have never been an employee of the Nash or Edgecombe school systems. I’m quite easy to find, actually, if you know what city and/or state to look in. I’m amused that this is such an issue with you. All I know about you is your name and your opinions…I couldn’t care less where you live/work/etc.

RESPONSE: You didn’t SHOW any difference. You ASKED if there was a difference. I reread your posts about these stories and not once did you SHOW a difference in reporting. Both incidences received widespread coverage. I’m sure you were hoping that the black students were “victims” of a racist media so you could go on a rant, but that’s not the case. If anything, the white students received more coverage and their pictures were shown.
Response: Thank you for doing some homework that was what I wanted to show how the media reported the 2 incidents. I have been receiving a lot of phone calls and listening to some conversations about how they thought the SWE incident reporting was not fair. I wanted to start a conversation to show if the 2 incidents were reported similar.
Oh hell no I was not hoping for a damn thing because I am an active black man and I know how the media works. Hell yeah the media is racist and I don’t need these 2 incidents to make that case.
Rant? Oh hell no just showing how the media works for some who don’t know. If I wanted to call the media RACIST as it related to this incident, I would have done so because I don’t have a problem with saying what I mean and not hiding behind a code name.
White students received more coverage because their pictures were shown? Really?
Well Bindy who ever you are male or female, for me it is not about the media because I know how the media operates. I posted the original post simply because I wanted to show the difference in the reporting of the 2 incidents. Some folks said they didn’t have to show the boys pictures in the SWE incident. Some said that is not that serious and does not deserve the media nor the punishment. So ignant I was showing the difference in the reporting.
There is a difference ignant because you said it the local papers didn’t show the SWE students pictures but the Rocky Mount Telegram showed the Nash Central students pictures.
Oh now you gonna get mad because I called you ignant. Well hell yeah you are because you disregarded my original post and trying to discredit me as you and so many others attempt to do but not.
Don’t even respond anymore because you will not make it about me because first of all my child was not involved and you will not use my blog as an avenue to try to discredit me when you are hiding behind a code name. You see if I knew who you were I could probably call your ignant a… out but since I can’t find any information about you, you can be seen as a credible person when you could be otherwise.

RESPONSE: Don’t you get it? I don’t CARE who you are. Doesn’t matter to me. I deal with your opinions on this website as you present them. Whether you’re black, white, male, female, employed, unemployed, etc., doesn’t effect whether your comments are right or wrong.
Response: No you don’t get it my point is you have made several comments about folks on my blog as if you lived here and you probably do but hiding behind a code name. My point is that is not going to continue to happen without validating who you are. Get that. It has nothing to do with if the comments are right or wrong but for validation purpose when it comes to talking about candidates. The comments about the incidents can be validated in the media per say but the mess you have reported in general about certain candidates will no longer be allowed without validating the facts. C.
